Hey there!
Happy first day of October! I think my Monday is going to be especially fantastic because I have the day off! Wheeee! I love me a little PTA, don't you?
PJ and I were away this weekend in Rehoboth, Delaware for the Dogfish Dash 10k. We had a great weekend away aside from the horrendous traffic we were stuck in while trying to get down to Delaware. Apparently, an oil tanker flipped over and they closed off the highway we planned on taking. Instead of a four hour trip to Delaware we had a 6 hour journey! No fun. We arrived in Delaware around 10pm, and headed straight to the Dogfish brewpub for some much-needed food and beverages!
cool menus.
Very happy to be sippin' a Dogfish Punkin' Ale. My phone died after I took this pic, but we had some awesome food. If you are ever in Rehoboth, I would highly recommend visiting Dogfishead Brewpub!
After a beer and some food, we headed to Bethany Beach where we were staying for the weekend. I think it is safe to say we were both very happy to get out of the car!
Saturday morning, we headed out for some breakfast and shopping! There are some AWESOME outlets in Rehoboth, and PJ and I couldn't resist a quick trip. We both had success at JCREW factory outlet. In my opinion, JCREW has one of the best outlet stores. They have a whole line of clothing and shoes designed specifically for their factory store and factory website.
We worked up quite and appetite swiping our credit card at outlets and decided it was time to eat! We headed to The Pig and Fish in Rehoboth.
We decided to engage in both of these activities and sat at the bar for food and drink!
Vino. Yum.
We split a delicious cheese plate.
We moved on to fried artichokes topped with lump crab meat and an amazing dipping sauce.
We finished with the fish tacos.
We headed back to the Dogfish Brewpub after lunch so PJ could meet up with a co-worker. We sat outside this time. They have an adorable patio off the restaurant where you can also eat and drink. The vines you see are actually hops (which are one of the 4 ingredients used in all beers)!
In addition to the hops, there were also basil plants along the side of the patio which are used in the cooking at the restaurant!
:)
Beautiful.
Yes, this happened. We were driving home and passed a huge blinking sign for an Elvis impersonator show. We looked at each other, laughed, and swung into the parking lot. I mean, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to see 21- yes 21- Elvis impersonators!
Yikes.
After our Elvis experience, we headed to The Blue Crab in Bethany beach for dinner! I have never had a crab experience quite like this! They poured a bunch of crabs seasoned with Old Bay (yum!) onto the table, and they gave us a mallet. PJ and I had to pull out our phones and google how to effectively get the meat out of these little suckers. I am sad to report that I smashed my finger with the mallet while trying to break the shell. #Fail. On a positive note, the crab was awesome. They also gave us hushpuppies and corn. I have never had a hushpuppy, but god were they good!
PJ pondering the ingredients in the "butter" they provided for the corn. Let's just say there was nothing "all natural" about that buttery stuff!
The next morning we were up and at em' for the Dogfish Dash. The weather was PERFECT for the run- sunny and cool! PJ and I ran together for the first 3.2 miles, but they I went the wrong way (surprise, surprise!) and followed the people doing the 5k. I had to turn around and run back so I was probably a minute behind PJ for the rest of the race. I could see him ahead of me, but didn't want to sprint to catch up with him for fear I might be too exhausted for the rest of the run.
I finished, and I actually had a pretty good run! Yes, I am drinking a beer at 9 am. PJ told me that beer is good for you after a long run because of the carbohydrates? Whatever, I'll take his word for it!
Enjoying our fresh brews :)
The run was at the Dogfish Brewery, not the brewpub. Check out some of the cool stuff I saw while I was there:
Awesome treehouse outside the brewery.
This piece of "art" was hanging outside the gift shop. I loved it!
After the race, we packed up, grabbed some lunch, and headed home. We saw a rainbow to bid us goodbye which was a fabulous end to a wonderful getaway!
Today I'm catching up on laundry, errands, and perhaps some of the tv shows I missed while I was away. I'm also going to squeeze in some yoga later :)
Before I head off, I wanted to share an awesome brekkie I made on Friday AM. Do yourself a favor and make these ASAP. You will not be disappointed.
Banana Protein Pancakes
(adapted from Peanut Butter Fingers)
Ingredients
-2/3 cup old fashioned oats
-1/4 cup cottage cheese
-1/4 cup mashed banana
-1 egg
-1 egg white
-1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
-1 /2 tablespoon of agave (or 1 tablespoon of honey)
-1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
Spray pan with cooking spray and heat to a medium heat. Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and blend with an immersion blender until batter is relatively smooth and all ingredients are fully mixed. Pour batter onto pan to form three medium-sized pancakes. Allow to cook until edges start to harden (about 3 min). Flip pancakes and cook until batter is no longer runny (about 2 min more). Top with some maple syrup and and a sprinkle of nutmeg! ENJOY!
This is an immersion blender. You could put ingredients in a regular blender.
