Hi Friends!
I realize I have taken a rather long ( over a month!) blog hiatus. I didn't mean for it to happen, but work has been extremely busy (how dare my job get in the way of blogging!), and frankly I have been feeling kind of crabby. I'm sure most of you have experienced a streak of unexplained grumpiness at one time or another. Although I LOVE the holiday season-family, friends, decorations (sparkly ones)!, fab outfits, sweaters, mom's hot chocolate with whip cream and pink sprinkles, yummy and comforting meals-I sometimes find myself a bit lost in the hustle and bustle and forget to take time and reflect on all the wonderful things I have in my life. I have noticed that I haven't been cooking as much (womp, womp), and PJ and I have instead been supporting the local take-out establishments many nights of the week and weekend. Don't get me wrong, I love me some greek or sushi takeout, but every night is expensive and just plain old lazy. I love to cook- who am I kidding? Also, my yoga practice, which is something that I NEED to do(for my sanity and the sanity of others!),has fallen my the wayside.
With that said, it's time to give myself a kick in the ol' bottom and get back to focusing on all of the awesomeness that I am lucky enough to have in my life. I know what makes me feel good, happy, accomplished, and calm (which is hard for me because I tend to work like an energizer bunny!). I have started cooking and prepping my meals again, I'm back to practicing yoga (with my new mat that PJ so kindly surprised me with- maybe it was a hint to get my butt back on the mat!), and I have started a daily gratitude journal which I would highly recommend for ANYONE to do especially during the hectic holiday season. What I have learned is sometimes we are going to get disconnected and discombobulated, but the important thing is refocusing and getting back to what you know makes you feel complete and happy :) whheeee!
EXPRESSING GRATITUDE
It has been a month, so I can't possibly catch you guys up on everything that I have been up to. Most of the month has involved work travel, so there isn't much to report there. I did want to give you a recommendation if you are interested in starting a gratitude journal. There is an app you can find in the app store of your iphone called Moodkit. There are so many awesome features on this app that help you to check in with yourself ( and the mess that is your mind!) throughout the day (I can't take credit for finding this app- thanks Adrienne!) There is a journal option, and if you click the second icon on the bar the says journal, it will provide you with a variety of subjects that help to guide you through your journaling. One of these options is "expressing gratitude". It asks you to articulate a few small things that you are thankful for, a few large things you are thankful for, and what focusing on these gifts can help you gain. Now, I have never been much of a journaler (word? I dunno..) because I can't sit still long enough to really assess what is going on inside my head. What I love about the journaling app in Moodkit is that the activities are guided, quick, and extremely beneficial. I have been doing the gratitude journal once in the morning and once when I am laying in bed at night. I would challenge you all to give it a whirl!
NEW YOGA SITE
You all know I love YogaToday, but I was getting bored with the classes as I think I have done each a gazillion times. In addition to yoga today, I am now subscribed to YogaGlo, which like Yoga Today provides a plethora of web-based yoga classes. I am LOVING this site. More to come on this later!
TIME FOR YOUR CLOSE-UP
As you can see from the above snaps, my life of late has been filled with : Dogs (Toby to be specific!), fuzzy socks and snuggling, sparkly dresses, Starbucks coffee, pizza (and sushi, and Greek food!), a few home-cooked meals, and my handsome boyfriend .
I will be back soon- I PROMISE!
Sarah
