My not so average Monday

Hey Bloggies! Long time no chat. I hope you all enjoyed a fantastic weekend. The weather here has been gorgeous  the past couple of days, and there is that hint of crispness in the air that indicates fall is on its way. Fall is by far my favorite season out of the four I am lucky enough to experience here in the Northeast.  My favorite fall things include but are not limited to: cozy sweaters, pumpkin spice latte's, riding boots, foliage, apples (honeycrisps especially!) , pumpkins, butternut squash, Yankee candles, red cheeks, fun scarves, and hot cider.  I made plans with a few girlfriends to go pumpkin and apple picking in the next few weeks and I could not be more excited. We went a few years ago and after collecting our bounty, we gathered at my apartment and made apple pie, drank red wine, and watched a movie. It was a fabulous day.

Anyways, the rest of my weekend was fun and low-key. I watched a very dark and intense movie on Saturday afternoon called "I Melt With You".  There was nothing on the tube to watch, so I began looking through my showtime free movie options and came across it.  It came out in 2011, and the cast included Rob Lowe and Jeremy Piven. The two other actors in the movie were somewhat well-known, so I decided to give it a go. I was NOT expecting the movie to twist and turn the way it did. I realize this is not an eloquent description of the film, but I would have to say that  it was a pretty f*ed up movie . With that said,  I  was definitely intrigued by it and watched the whole thing. I wouldn't recommend watching it if you are in the mood for a light-hearted, fun, movie. If you are in the mood for a psychological "thriller" for lack of a better word, go for it.

Saturday night I enjoyed some pizza, salad, and vino for dinner.

Wild mushroom pizza with truffle, thyme, and cheese. Delightful.

After dinner, a bunch of us gathered at a friend's apartment for some drinks and a game of Apples to Apples.

Me with my two winning cards.

Manly and smart were the cards I won. Hmm....

Delicious red velvet cupcake with this awesome jellyish filling made by my friend Erin.

LL and I! I apologize for my devil eyes in EVERY pic. I have tried the red-eye reduction editing, but nothing helps. I'm a true demon, I guess.

How cute is this?! Dogtoberfest! These fresh brewskies that PJ and I enjoyed on Saturday night are brewed by Flying Dog Brewery. I love Octoberfest beers in general, but slap a dog on the package and I'm in love!

Today I started the day with a breakfast of a sprouted grain english muffin, smeared with sunflower seed butter and paired with a green juice from my favorite neighborhood juice bar and market, DOCO. I haven't been since last Tuesday because I realized I am going to go broke if I purchase my beloved green juice every day of the week. I'm trying to limit myself to 3 a week. I guess in terms of obsessions, green juice is one I shouldn't be so hard on myself for!

I also purchased this tea while at DOCO. I have heard amazing things about Tulsi teas and have been wanting to give it a try. To learn more about Tulsi tea, click here.  Tulsi is an herb from the basil family that has been grown and honored in India for over five millenia. In a nutshell, it supposedly promotes a sense of well-being, relieves stress, supports immunity, strength and stamina, provides relief from cold, fever and flu symptoms, and strengthens digestion and aids in achieving a healthy metabolism. I purchased the jasmine variety and I love the flavor. I enjoyed it with my late day snacky.

Carrots (sprinkled with salt, pepper, and garlic powder), low fat cottage cheese (my fave brand is the Breakstone's cottage cheese you see in the pic), and Tulsi tea! Yum

I picked up this chocolate bar for PJ and I to enjoy this week. We typically like the Salted Caramel and Almond bar, but this one intrigued me. I snagged a little piece after lunch today and it rocked .

Each of these chocolate bars come with a love poem inside :) Such an adorable touch, dontcha think? I actually never noticed the poem before today, and I have purchased at least one of these chocolate bars each week !

Not a great photo of today's lunch, but this salad rocked. I had to eat half of it so I could take this picture for the bloggy as all the good stuff sunk to the bottom! I have been adding diced sweet potato to my salads lately. Have you ever done this? I find that they not only add flavor, but the fiber and starch from the potatoes help me to feel full longer. I also used a bunch of chickpeas, edamame, fresh corn, tomato, zucchini, basil, and celery. I topped this bad boy off with the one and only, Goddess Dressing.

Oh, how I love this stuff!

Ok, so maybe you are wondering why my post is titled My not so average Monday. Ok, ok, don't beg- I'll fill you in!  First and foremost I will state that I am NOT a Monday person.  I tend to get anxious about accomplishing everything I want/need to do during the week, and I have ended up becoming sort of a perpetual Monday beast. As I trekked out on what seemed to be my average moody Monday, I had a run in with a rather interesting character on a street in the Bronx. I was getting some materials out of my trunk, and I will admit I was pretty focused on the task at hand, and I wasn't totally aware of my surroundings. I reached up to shut my trunk, and bonked this woman ( for the record, she appeared to be under the influence of something...) who apparently had decided to also stand under my trunk (weird?!). Now, maybe I should have looked around, but who stands under someone's trunk? I'm telling you, sh*t almost went down! She got right in my face (while holding and eating a fried chicken leg) and cursed me out for not seeing her. This went on for a good 2 minutes. I kept my cool and just continually apologized until she staggered off. I mean, really?! I would like to think if things got bad, her weapon of choice would have been the half eaten chicken leg (I could handle that... I think). I made it out alive, and I do have to say it gave me a good chuckle which is always good! I hope you have a chuckle, too!

Ok, I'm off to relax and have another cup of my Tulsi tea before bed!

xo
