PJ and I are actually having a slight battle about our current sleeping situation. I cannot fall asleep to noise, and PJ swears that he needs the "sound" of tv to fall asleep. About a year ago, we compromised and got rid of the big tv we had in the bedroom because along with the noise, the light in the room was keeping me awake. PJ now watches tv on his IPAD ( either 30 rock or parks and rec) which has helped reduce the light situation, but has not helped with the sound. I love Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, but listening to them as I fall asleep just doesn't do it for me. In addition, PJ has trouble sleeping through the night and somehow doesn't think it will bug me if he puts the IPAD back on at 3 am! Trust me, you don't want to deal with a sleep deprived Sarah- it ain't pretty. The past few nights, I have kicked PJ and his IPAD out of the bedroom at 4 am when he can't sleep. We are currently in a stalemate; he thinks I should get sound blocking headphones, and I think he should wear headphones or learn how to sleep like a normal person (haha, I kid!). With that said, welcome to PJ's new bedroom...
Hahahaha. My little angel :)
We have decided to give the headphone situation a go (him, not me!). Hopefully that will appease both of us, and we can all slumber soundly. :)
I certainly know someone who has NO problem sleeping soundly...ZZzzzZZZZ
So, the other day I got my first Pumpkin Spice Latte of the season from Starbucks. Wheeee! While on a business trip, my co-worker Katie suggested ordering the latte with just 2 pumps of the pumpkin syrup (they typically use 3). It lightens it up a little, and I actually enjoy the taste of pumpkin essence rather than a super sweet concentrated pumpkin flavor. I also get an extra shot of espresso (zip, zip!) and skim milk.
Let's talk about skim milk. I think it is gross. Frankly, anything non-fat in my opinion= chemical shitstorm. I heard that term somewhere (I can't remember where), but it is definitely the case with most non fat products. I used to be ALL about skim milk and non fat . I was the annoying person at Starbucks (you know the one!) who would ask the barista if he was positive that it was skim milk he poured into my coffee. I mean, come on, Sarah. The barista is not on a quest to poison my coffee with full fat milk. Oh, the horror! I will admit, I still get the urge to ask if they are SURE it is non-fat milk in my latte. In the nature of full disclosure, I have actually succumbed to asking once or twice. The difference between me now and then is that I try to remind myself that even if an error was made and my latte did in fact have full fat milk, the world would still turn and my body would not rapidly change from one latte.
Pumpkin Spice Latte: 2 pumps and 2 shots :)
These days, when I get a regular coffee I usually add a dash of soy milk or soy creamer (If you haven't tried it, go for the Silk French Vanilla Soy Creamer-amazeballs!). Soy milk or full fat milk in a latte is just too heavy for me, which is why I do opt for non fat milk in these drinks.
Moving along. Last night, after enjoying a cocktail and the season finale of "Breaking Bad", PJ and I went out for a late dinner at a local restaurant called Cityside Bistro that just changed ownership. We hadn't heard great things in the past, but PJ had seen the new menu and it looked pretty fantastic. Let me tell you, it was delish.
We started with raw bar.
PJ found a pearl in his oyster!!!
I had grilled octopus risotto. Yum.
Bad Pic. PJ had rigatoni with pork belly and some other yummy stuff.
We hit up a local wine bar after dinner for a drink. Love their glasses!
All in all it was a nice little evening! We found a pearl, had great food, great wine, and most importantly lots of laughs . As I said, I got up late today and I haven't accomplished much besides eating, menu planning, and ordering groceries from Fresh Direct. All of these activities were done with coffee in hand, which you know I love!
Delicious (and nutritious!) breakfast I whipped up for PJ and I using the leftover veggies we had in the fridge: Sprouted grain english muffin (with real, full fat butter! ) and scrambled eggs (2 whites, 1 egg) with sautéed onion, zucchini, kale and goat cheese.
Alright, kiddies. I am off to do some yoga and hit up target for some things! I am going to leave you with a quote from Geneen Roth that I absolutely love.
"You can stop following the instructions you were given ten or twenty or fifty years ago. You can become every courageous inch of yourself, your own heroine, but you have to act. No one can do this for you. It's up to you." - Geneen Roth
I hope you all have a wonderful Saturday! See you tomorrow!
xo
