And another hiatus....

Hi all!

So I realize it's been almost a week again since I last posted! I've been off the grid celebrating Christmas and quite  frankly, relaxing!  I've also been pretty horrendous about snapping photos, so I don't have a lot of visual chronicling of the past week either. Fail. Anyways, Christmas at PJ's was as fantastic as always. We celebrated with friends, family, and lots-o-food! I will say that over the past two weeks, I dined out more, and consumed an abundance of yummy foods that I typically enjoy more moderately. I guess such is the holidays, right? The day after Christmas, I was craving simple food- vegetable, quinoa, and fish. Unfortunately, this didn't happen as my Fresh Direct order didn't come until Thursday! Therefore, Thursday was another day of takeout: a little leftover lo-mein for breakfast, Subway sangy for lunch, and sushi for dinner. Needless to say, I was thrilled on Thursday when all my cruciferous goodies arrived! I also had the hankering to cook, which I had not done since the previous week when I whipped up din din for my parents. Thursday I got back to the kitchen and made a delicious and comforting soup  that was recommended to me by PJ's sis. I usually am not a soup lover, but this one hit the spot because of its thickness and garlicky flavor! The recipe she used was from Rachel Ray, but I chose to go with a Smitten Kitchen recipe ( it was pretty much the same), because I just love smitten kitchen so very much!

Roasted Eggplant Soup

(adapted from Smitten Kitchen)

5077203654_40aafdbfea

Serves 4

3 medium tomatoes, halved
1 large eggplant (about 1 1/2 pounds), halved lengthwise (I used 3 smaller ones)
1 small onion, halved (eh, mine was medium)
6 large garlic cloves, peeled
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme or 1 teaspoon dried
4 cups chicken stock or vegetable broth (I USED VEGGIE BROTH)
1/4 cup heavy cream (you can add more to taste, or skip this entirely) ( I SKIPPED AND USED A PLOP OF CHOBANI BEFORE EATING!)
3/4 cup (about 3 1/2 ounces) crumbled goat cheese

*I also stirred in a splash of balsamic vinegar to the pot before eating for some tangyness! YUM.

Preheat oven to 400°F. Arrange tomatoes, eggplant, onion and garlic on a large baking sheet, or two smaller ones if you, like me, have a tiny oven. Brush or drizzle vegetables with oil then roast them for 20 minutes, pausing only to remove the garlic cloves (the original recipe had you keep them in the whole time, and mine, sadly, burned) and returning the pans to the oven for another 25 minutes, until the remaining vegetables are tender and brown in spots. Remove from oven and scoop eggplant from skin into a heavy, large saucepan or soup pot. Add the rest of the vegetables, the thyme and the chicken or vegetable stock and bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Cook until onion is very tender, about 45 minutes (mine took longer). Cool slightly.

Working in batches, puree soup in blender until it is as smooth as you’d like it to be. (Or, if you have an immersion blender, you can do this in the pot.) Back in the pot, add the cream and bring the soup back to a simmer. Season with salt and pepper. Serve in four bowls, sprinkled with goat cheese.

A spicier riff: As I mentioned above, if you like to play with spices, this soup has a lot of potential. The next time I make it, I might give it a spin with 1 to 2 teaspoons ground cumin, 1 teaspoon ground coriander and a pinch of red pepper flakes or Aleppo pepper added in with the broth. I might finish the soup with a squeeze of lemon juice and I might use feta, which has a stronger flavor than the soft chevre that I used. If you add any spices or made any changes, I’d love to hear what you came up with in the comments.

In other new, PJ's Dad got me a juicer for Christmas! I have been wanting one for a while, but I never got around to buying it. Frankly, I was a little scared of the contraption and the juicing process. After my first experience using it yesterday, I will say the mess I made was a tad frightening. I'm hoping the disaster lessens as I become a more skilled juicer, but my first attempt resulted in a beet and kale covered kitchen. I'm not talking about dirty counters, I mean the walls and underneath the cabinets were splattered with green, red, and orange. I found a piece of kale in my coffee which must have shot into the air and found its landing-place in my precious caffeinated beverage. Despite the slightly frenetic experience, my juice came out fabulous. I would have taken photos for you, but I just couldn't manage it! I'll provide recipes as I get better. Yesterday's tye die wonder consisted of a boat load of kale, 1 beet, 1 pear, 2 huge carrots, and some ginger.

So, yet another year comes to a close on Monday. How bout' it? I feel like this year FLEW by; however I think I say this every year. With a new year comes the infamous (and often unsuccessful) new years resolution. To be completely honest, I never really make a new years resolution, and in the nature of full disclosure, I'm also guilty of not giving up anything during Lent. I think some of this is due to laziness, and I'm also aware that I probably won't stick to the vow I make. I'm guessing this is because my plans are unrealistic. This year I'm turning over a new leaf and choosing to work on something that will be good for my brain and my wallet. I mentioned in a post a couple of weeks back that my goal is to "wear and repeat" (like Kate Middleton!). Well, this has now become an obvious New Years Resolution!

Wear and Repeat

pink-dress-2

Who doesn't love a new outfit for each and every occasion? It's fun, it makes you feel good, and you don't have the same outfit posted twice in pics on Facebook! Despite the pros, there are clear cons which include, but are not limited too: an ever shrinking wallet, a closet packed with clothes that have tags on them, and wasted opportunities to take your poor, neglected clothing out for the night! What happens to me is that I purchase an article of clothing and then proceed to "save" it for just the right occasion. Guess what happens? Between the purchase and "just the right event", I find another perfect outfit that calls to me off the rack that I "must have" for said event. This result is a closet full of clothes (and wasted $) that I never end up wearing. I also tend to revert to wearing clothing that is old and comfy instead of wearing the new items I buy. For example, I have about 10 sweaters from JCrew (primarily the cable knit Wellesley sweaters.. I don't think they even call them this anymore!) purchased YEARS ago that I always find myself reaching for. I have a variety of newer sweaters, but they just aren't in the mix as much as my JCrew old faithfuls. If you buy classics, they never go out of style- thanks, Mom. :) So to wrap it up, this year is wear and repeat. I've already done it a few times, and I feel so good about it! You can change-up the look by adding different accessories! After all, no one else cares if you repeat an outfit. For the most part, they are exclusively focused on what they wear and how they feel! hallelujah.

One way that I have been editing my closet is by selling my gently worn clothing to either Second Time Around or Buffalo Exchange. I prefer Buffalo exchange because they give you cash on the spot. AWESOME. You receive 30% cash or 50% store credit (you choose) on each item they decide to take. Second Time Around gives you 30% of each item they sell, so you do have to wait a bit to receive your pay out. If they don't sell an item, you have a date to pick it up by or else they donate it. Don't get me wrong, there are many clothes and shoes that I do donate (because they have been worn to death!), but if something is barely worn and in great condition, why not get some bling bling for it?!

Alrighty, my friends! That's it for today. I'm off to do some yoga and cleaning. Whoopy! I'm going to leave you with an article from Balanced- Beings that addresses how to handle the holiday festivities. I realize Monday will punctuate a whirlwind holiday season, but this article is applicable to any event on any given day!

Cheers!

Rock That Holiday Party

Posted on December 10, 2012

                                                         Healthy Tip Of The Week

                                                         Rock That Holiday Party!

I love holiday parties! It is a perfect excuse to get out of my yoga clothes and into some fun outfits. What I don't like is feeling as if I got off track by eating things I normally wouldn't and drinking more wine than I should. Over the years I have learned some ways to rock that holiday party without feeling it the next morning.

1. Eat before the party! Never show up for a party on an empty stomach. You will consume more food and get tipsy much faster. If you are leaving right from work bring something with you to work or when you go out to lunch pick up something for dinner too.

2. Water! If you are planning on drinking alternative water in between each of your drinks! This will help with the hangover and the conversation you wish you didn't have with your boss.

3. Napkin test! Place the food on a napkin if it leaves a grease mark you probably don't want to eat it. This fool proof test never fails.

4. Healthy Options! Avoid the dips and chips but grab the veggies next to them. At holiday parties there will be many temptations, sweets and fried food galore, so before you start eating look at all of the options.

5. Dance! I don't think it is a party unless there is music. Bring your dancing shoes and have fun. Not to bad for getting your exercise in that day!

Remember these healthy tips but don't get to caught up in them. It is a party so rock it and enjoy :)

The Nutcracker

Happy Saturday everyone!

Before I planned my trip home, my wonderful mom asked me the (silly) question of whether I wanted to see Boston Ballet's "The Nutcracker" while I was home. The answer was an immediate yes (which I think was probably squealed!), and I have been  counting down the days to the show ever since. I LOVE THE NUTCRACKER. I actually love going to the ballet regardless of the show, but I particularly enjoy The Nutcracker. My Dad has been taking me to the ballet for years as our father daughter date. We would both dress up, head to a fancy restaurant for dinner, and then we would make the trip to the Wang Theater to see the ballet. My mom told me that during the first ballet that she ever brought me to, I threw my arms up mid-show to mimic the ballerinas dancing on the stage. Dancer in my blood? I think so. Anyways,  I have seen The Nutcracker what seems what seems like a dozen times over, and each experience to me is shiny and new. This year, it really was a completely original event  since the traditional choreography and costumes were updated!

Boston Ballet
My mom and I headed into Boston for an early dinner before the show at Troquet ,which neither of us had ever been to.

Driving in!

toby yoga 001

The restaurant was very quaint, and we sat at a window table with a view of Boston common.

toby yoga 003

We split a fresh beet salad to start. The restaurant divided it for us so that we each got our own mini salad!

toby yoga 004

We also split the cavetelli with black truffles. This dish said Sarah all over it given that cavatelli is my favorite pasta, and as you probably by now, anything with truffles is right up my alley! It was delish.

toby yoga 013

For my entree, I had the halibut. It had some type of mushrooms and bok choy hidden underneath the fish. It was not the best piece of fish I have ever had, but I enjoyed it nonetheless!

toby yoga 007

Mini macaron sliders for dessert!

toby yoga 009After dinner, Mom and I headed to the Four Seasons for a glass of vino before the show. As you can tell by Mom's "windblown" appearance, it was extremely windy and cold on Wednesday night!

toby yoga 010

Me posing outside the Four Seasons and wearing the flats I was forced to resort to after the ankle strap on my stilettos snapped while we were walking to the restaurant! It was an unfortunate circumstance, but thank goodness my mom had flats in her purse!

toby yoga 015Patiently (or impatiently!) waiting for a drink at the bar! For the record, I put the floppy shoe back on (despite my inability to walk normally in it!) . I didn't care what I would have to do, but I certainly was not going to walk into the Four Seasons wearing gold flats with the dress you see in the photo above. Can you say "granny chique" ?

My beautiful Mama sippin' her vino!

Then we headed over to the opera house to see the show! Wheeee :)

toby yoga 017Beautiful entry way to the opera house!

nutcracker2__1353960484_9952-2

Of course flash photography is prohibited in the theater, so I had to snag this image off the internet. The show was absolutely beautiful, and I thought the dancers performed the new choreography flawlessly. There were a couple of changes to the traditional show that I didn't like quite as much as the show I remember, one of  these altered scenes happened to be the party scene. I used to love that part of the performance for the vibrancy of the costumes.  Instead of the bright, beautiful, and detailed costumes typical of the party scene, the children and parents wore very muted dresses that almost looked like night gowns. Buzz kill.  Despite my aversion to the party scene, I thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the show!

We made the quick trip home- singing Christmas songs the whole way!

Ok, enough for now! I'll be back later with some updates from the last couple days!

Granola Crusted Nuts

Hey Guys!

I'm just popping in quick to share a must-make granola recipe. Since I've been home, I have been munching on this fantastic "granola" that my mom made and absolutely raved about. I either sprinkle it in my yogurt, or I munch on in directly out of the jar! Yum. It's SO easy and quick to make- and more importantly, it's nutritious and delicious!

Granola Crusted Nuts

(Adapted from: Smitten Kitchen)

Granola-Crusted Nuts

Any nut can be used but those bumpy, craggy ones will manage to stow more granola coating.

New note: If you’d like to add additional sweetness with honey or maple syrup, you can probably skip the water in the egg white. The purpose of it is just to thin the egg white enough that it coats well.

These are as excellent with breakfast as they would be for a travel snack or gift.

3/4 cup rolled oats (quick-cooking or old-fashioned will work; instant might get a little dusty)
1/4 cup shredded or flaked unsweetened coconut
2 tablespoons pepitas, or another nut or seed of your choice (Instead of pepitas, Mom and I used sunflower seeds. We also added two tbsp. of millet after processing for a crunchy pop!)
1/4 cup dark or light brown sugar (for low-to-moderate sweetness)
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Few pinches sea salt
1 large egg white
2 teaspoons water (adjusted from 1 T)
2 cups (approximately 1/2 pound) walnuts, pecans or nuts that you prefer

Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a food processor, pulse oats, coconut, pepitas, sugar, cinnamon and salt in short bursts until the mixture is very well chopped but not powdery — it needn’t be like a flour. In a large bowl, beat egg white and water until frothy (but not stiff). Add nuts to bowl and coat them very well, using a few more stirs than will seem necessary because if the egg doesn’t get into the craters of the nuts, no granola will stick there. And that would be sad. Pour oat mixture into bowl and very gently fold it together with the nuts, so that it just barely sticks. (I found that if you stirred it a lot, the mixture just started falling off, so just a few folds will do.) You’ll have more granola coating than will seem necessary, but this is fine. Spread nuts-and-granola out on baking sheet in a single layer but no need to separate them. Sprinkle any granola mix leftover in the bowl over the nuts.

Bake for 20 minutes, moving nuts around just once in the baking time so that the inner nuts get as toasty as the ones at the edge, and up to 10 minutes more if they don’t look toasty yet at 20 minutes. Transfer pan to cooling rack and let nuts cool completely there. Once fully cool, break up any nut clusters and place mixture in jars/bags/your hand.

toby yoga 006Me and my crazy hair mixing the granola. This is clearly not my best photo; however, I did want to showcase the adorable pajamas my mom gave me for Christmas! Gotta love the matching pajama suit!

toby yoga 004Breakfast today was an old favorite: Whole wheat toast with peanut butter and pumpkin. My Dad's response when I brought this to the breakfast table was, "Eew, Gross". I guess I can see how the color combo is a bit shocking early in the morning.

toby yoga 003Last evening, my Mom and I went out for dinner at a local Mediterranean restaurant. We are Armenian, so we'll seek out and try any Greek, Lebanese, or Armenian restaurant we can find.  Last night it was Yellah Grille in Andover, Ma. We started with the Fattoush salad which was awesome.

toby yoga 002We also split an order of grape leaves with a yogurt dipping sauce. Yum.

toby yoga 007We both had  the sea scallops for dinner. AMAZING, I tell ya! They were pan seared and served with a Roasted Garlic, Cilantro, Shallot, and White Wine Emulsion accompanied by a Trio of Sautéed Shitake, Portobello & Chanterelle over Truffled Shaved Potato (this description is from their online menu- I'm not as artistic with my wording when referencing food!).  I practically licked my plate to soak up the mushrooms and sauce.

nutcracker-ballet

Alright, my friends!  I am off! Tonight I'm heading into Boston for dinner( I seem to be eating very well this week!) and to see The Nutcracker! I'm so excited for the show as I haven't seen it in years! Per usual, I'm going to leave you with a little inspirational nugget a friend of mine posted to Facebook last night. As I'm quickly approaching another birthday, the thought below gives me something to look forward to as I inevitably continue to tack on the years ! Enjoy the rest of your day!

Cheers!

Faux Christmas!

Hi There!

When I last posted Sunday evening, I was too tired to finish giving you all the details about my "Faux Christmas".  I love Christmastime, and it has always been  one of my favorite holidays. I find that during the holiday season, people are generally more cheerful, compassionate, and giving. I thoroughly enjoy spending quality time with friends and family which is usually sprinkled with laughs, yummy treats, and some sparkly and sassy outfits. Although I thoroughly miss spending the holidays with my family, I enjoy having Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with PJ's family. Christmas Eve at PJ's house is pretty epic if I do say so myself! Instead of coming home to Boston for a few jammed packed days for the actual holiday,  I typically come home for a week before Christmas (which is where I am now!). This time enables me to enjoy myself and the fam here at home in a relaxed manner. Even though I'm not home for the actual Christmas holiday, my mom still busts out all the stops for Christmas including but not limited to: an immaculately decorated tree, various winter "scenes" and snowscapes scattered throughout the house, bowls of balls ( um, ornaments...),  and other decorations that fill our home with holiday cheer.

snow

Ok, so back to "Faux Christmas". We have titled the early Christmas Eve that my parents, PJ, and my Uncle Mark celebrate, "Faux Christmas". We open stockings, exchange gifts, and relax by the tree. It feels just like the Christmas Eves spent at my house that I loved so much while growing up. My mom usually cooks a dinner on this night, but we decided that this year we were going to have our celebration late afternoon and then head to a restaurant for dinner. We went to an amazing Italian restaurant in the town adjacent to mine which conveniently had  a tree lighting that evening.

dad and sarah treeMy Dad and I in front of the tree. I took more pictures, but unfortunately they weren't keepers.

fish stewThe restaurant is called The Tuscan Kitchen, and I LOVE the atmosphere, food, vino, and amazing bread at this Italian gem. I love a crispy piece of bread dipped in olive oil, salt and pepper- and let me tell ya- their bread is a force to be reckoned with! We ordered mussels, a salad, and cocktails to enjoy before dinner. I chose the fish stew for my entrée. It was awesome. The waiter was telling me that the northern Italian term for the dish I chose is "fish stew", while the more commonly used southern term is "Zuppe de Pesce". You can call this dish whatever you want; either way, I love me a fish stew!

wineWe had this "Super Tuscan" wine with dinner, which everyone agreed was pretty fantastic. I think that's why we ordered bottle number two!

mom and I

Mom and I at dinner. I'm loving the red lips this season if you couldn't tell. However, I am not loving when it gets all over my teeth or my wine glass which seems to be happening quite frequently. Oh well! All in all, it was a great Faux Christmas!

pj bowtieMy bow-tied boyfriend cracking some fancy beer on Saturday night.

ahi tuna

The weekend consisted of eating most meals out, so by Sunday I was craving veggies and  a home cooked dinner. For lunch on Sunday, I made an awesome salad with grilled and fresh veggies, and I topped it with my mom's leftover seared tuna from dinner the night before. it was pretty awesome. For the most part, my breakfast meals have been the same as usual. You know, Chobani with cereal, nuts , and fruit, english muffins with peanut butter and banana, and on Sunday morning, I switched it up a bit with an omelet. The omelet was a welcome change, as I rarely crave eggs for breakfast.

egg whites

2 egg whites, 1 egg with tomato, broccoli, ketchup, and hot sauce. Blackberries on the side.

judy

On Sunday afternoon, my parents, my friend Meg, and I watched Meet me in St. Louis starring my girl, Judy Garland. I have always wanted to watch this movie,  and I thought Christmastime was the perfect opportunity to finally sit my buns down and watch! Fun Fact: "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" was first debuted in Meet me in St. Louis!  It 's clearly an old movie, so there were definitely some corny parts; however, I loved it!

Blog Photos12-3Dinner Sunday night was vino free, and it included roasted chicken, veggies,  sweet potatoes, and a side of lightly dressed arugula. Perfecto!

kathryn

I have been practicing yoga a lot since my arrival in Boston which is awesome.  I gave it a break on Sunday, and decided to rest the bones. Although Yoga makes me feel fantastic, I found it more beneficial to take it easy on Sunday. I begin to resent any form of movement even yoga- if I do it every day. I  appreciate and enjoy exercise when I give myself time off. Conversely, if I force myself to do it everyday, I begin to get burnt out and disgruntled. That my friends is NOT the goal of yoga or any other type of exercise for that matter.

kathryn 3

My fave yoga instructor on YogaGlo is currently Kathryn Budig (above pics). I kind of have a girl crush on her. Not only are her classes well paced and expertly guided, but they are also challenging and restorative at the same time. Do yourself a favor and choose one of her classes on YogaGlo. You will thank me.

545843_10150743087633053_93003488052_9523711_1949670481_n

I also LOVE Kathryn's view on body image. She posted this picture of herself to her Facebook page with the caption: " I am not my body image". Fantastic right? This chicky is certainly in phenomenal shape (she models nakey for toe sox!), but she has a healthy, strong body. If you Google her name, the images that pop up of her practicing are awe-inspiring. GIRL IS STRONG. When I used to visualize what a "yoga body" looked like , visions of a sinewy, rail thin, bodies would flood my mind. While there is nothing wrong with this body shape if it is a natural result of eating intuitively and practicing yoga, there is (in my opinion) something very wrong with practicing yoga for the sole purpose of achieving a certain body type. It defeats the purpose. Also, if your like me, you probably thought (or think) that yoga  isn't sufficient exercise. Let me tell you, it is! Many of the classes I "take" are sweat inducing and leave my heart pumping. These days, I occasionally do other forms of exercise besides yoga, but yoga is the mainstay of my "workout'" routine. It is the form of movement that I look forward to,and it makes me feel centered, energized and happy. As I have said before, do what you love. In my experience, following this path is what has made me love and stay committed to moving my body!

toby yoga

Toby loves his yoga mat, too. He used to curl up on my old yoga mat quite frequently, so PJ and I put it in the bottom of his crate (a.k.a his condo). He loves it :)

OK, time to go! I'm going to leave you with a quote that I am LOVING right now.

Home Happenings..

Greetings from Boston!

ice skates

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. I have loved every minute of my weekend at home with the fam and PJ. It was filled with lots of laughs, great food and friends, copious amounts of fantastic wine, fancy fuzzy socks,a faux Christmas celebration, and the creation of a pretty spectacular gingerbread house.

salumi tray

Amazing salumi tray and hummus that my mom put together for PJ and I to snack on when we arrived Thursday afternoon.

shrimp and grits

Dinner Thursday evening was shrimp and grits ( recipe coming soon!) with roasted asparagus, salad, and vino. It's hard to make out the grits on my plate, but they are hidden under the shrimp. I went in for an additional helping of the grits  because their creamy, starchy goodness was just so darn yummy and comforting.

Blog Photos12-3 003

Amazing wine.

mann orchard

On Friday afternoon, PJ and I ran some errands and hit up one of my fave local spots, Mann Orchards. They have fantastic produce, baked goods, jams and spreads, and they now carry craft beer and cider. We clearly went to investigate the craft beer department, as PJ cannot travel anywhere without researching and visiting any and all craft beer retailers. Mann's also serves lunch, but PJ was starving so we opted to head across the street to another restaurant with a more extensive menu. We split ahi tuna wontons for an appetizer, and I had a simple Waldorf salad with chicken for my main dish. It was the perfect lunch!

Irish-Cottage-2

We headed home after our outing and relaxed for a bit. We ended up heading to the Irish Cottage around dinner time for some food and drinks. None of us were in the mood for a fancy meal that would require drive time, so this local  pub fit the bill.  The restaurant had live Irish music which was very loud, but it also made the evening a little more festive. I have eaten here a few times during past visits home, and the food has always been great.

station diner

Late Saturday morning, PJ and I headed into Boston to meet friends for brunch. We went to a fantastic restaurant called Deluxe Station Diner in Newton Centre, which is an adorable town bordering the city of Boston. We had some great eats and enjoyed catching up with good friends.

tuna melt

The menu at the restaurant was huge, and everything sounded phenomenal. I had a small snack of cottage cheese and pear in the car as we traveled into town, but it just didn't stick.  I always try to have something before I head out to brunch to prevent me from arriving overly hungry . Even though I did this on Saturday, it just didn't help.  You know when you have reached the point of hunger where you actually visualize (and even consider?!) yourself grabbing a handful of fries off someone else's plate and shoving them into your mouth? Well I had reached that point. Choosing my meal was difficult , as I was literally salivating at the plates of food in front of people at the neighboring tables. I went with my gut instinct which told me to get the tuna melt. I haven't had a tuna melt in probably three years, but it was calling to me from the packed pages of the menu. It was fantastic. I think I may have these more than every three years.

bloody mary

I slurped on a spicy Bloody Mary with my meal.  Yum.

yoga

Ok, let's move on from Bloody Mary's to yoga. I can't think of a better segue, can you? So,  I have made time to practice yoga each day since my arrival in Boston, and I am feeling pretty fantastic about it. I am now using the website YogaGlo instead of Yoga Today. I do like Yoga Today, but I found myself bored with their class lineup. I am loving the instructors and classes on YogaGlo, and I have definitely stepped up my practice since I started using the site.

In light of the horrendous events that occurred in CT on Friday, yoga has served not only as my form of movement, but it has also  served as a small way to express gratitude for all the wonderful people and gifts that I am lucky enough to have in my life. Yoga always provides me with the opportunity to reconnect with myself and to truly appreciate how full my life is. The events that occurred on Friday clearly illuminated the unfortunate reality of life's fragility. With this idea at the top of my mind,  I have found myself  more compassionate towards myself and others. The small daily nuances that tend to aggravate me about myself or others have been completely irrelevant over the past two days.

gingerbread houseIt's bed time for me now,  but I will be back tomorrow with some pics and updates from the "faux Christmas" we had here last evening.  On a side note, my Mom and I constructed this fabulous gingerbread house over coffee and breakfast this morning. Some activities just never lose their sparkle no matter how old you get!
